Peter Slavov

Born to the family of legendary Bulgarian drummer Peter Slavov Sr., Peter has been playing bass since the age of twelve. While studying classical music at the Pipkov Music School in Sofia, Peter discovered jazz and soon became the busiest upright bassist on the scene in Bulgaria, playing with the country’s finest musicians and touring Europe extensively. In 1998 Peter received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music, and in 1999 moved to Boston to attend Berklee. Since moving to the United States, Peter Slavov has performed and/or recorded with world-renowned artists, such as Joe Lovano, Quincy Jones, Danilo Perez, George Garzone, Kevin Mahogany and Simon Shaheen,among others. Peter has been recorded on more than 30 albums, most recently on the Quincy Jones-produced “Sounds of Space” by Alfredo Rodriguez, as well as on the upcoming Joe Lovano record, featuring Esperanza Spalding and Lionel Loueke alongside Lovano’s Grammy-nominated Us Five band.

Peter is currently touring the world with Joe Lovano's Us Five and the Joe Lovano Europa Quartet, Francisco Mela's Cuban Safari, as well as with the trio of Cuban piano sensation Alfredo Rodriguez.

He is the co-leader of New York-based music collective Open Ended.

Peter has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals around the world, among them Birdland (New York), The Monterey Jazz Festival, The North Sea Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, Jazz a Juan(Antibes), Olympia(Paris), Massey Hall (Toronto), La Cigale(Paris), The Jerusalem Theater (Jerusalem), Paris Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Bataclan(Paris), New Orleans Jazz Festival, MGM Grand (Las Vegas), Jazz in Marciac, Dubai Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Skopje Jazz Festival, Boston Globe Jazz Festival, The Blue Note(New York), The Blue Note(Milan), The Blue Note(Tokyo),The Blue Note(Nagoya), The Jazz Bakery, Yoshi's, The Dakota, Folly Theather, Scullers, Regatta Bar, Joe's Pub, Sweet Rhythm, The Jazz Standard, Smalls, Fat Cat, Cornelia Street Cafe, Calle 54(Madrid), Bimhuis(Amsterdam), Moods am Schifbau(Zurich), Widder Bar(Zurich), Zappa(Tel Aviv), Ronnie Scott's(London), Duc des Lombards(Paris), A- Trane(Berlin),Severance Hall and the legendary Minton's Playhouse in Harlem.

As the house bassist at historic Wally’s Café in Boston, Peter has accompanied the likes of Wynton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove.

Peter Slavov is currently based in New York City.
