Primary Instrument: Vocalist
I like to think of myself as a new, although not a young voice. Growing up in what was then called Sugar Hill, in New York City, the strains of Big Band Jazz (my parent’s music), Be-Bop, Blues and Mambo could be heard everywhere. I sang, listened to and enjoyed the sounds of my generation, Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Latin and Doo Wop music: the sounds of Dizzy, Eckstein, Sinatra, Prysock, Noro Morales, Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan as well as the music of my mother's gospel choir filled our apartment. During my teens and as a young man in the Air Force, I sang with a number of vocal groups. After leaving the military, I tried singing and song-writing, but to earn a living, I drifted into Graphic Arts . Making a living has had me alternating between Graphic Designing and traveling as a Newsreel Cameraman. I've gathered five Emmy awards for cinematography/videography along the way. I recently retired from my day job as a video engineer for NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. I book myself as a single jazz vocalist working in small combos at different venues in the metropolitan area, availing myself of the great jazz sidemen that can be found here in New York City. I've also worked over the past ten years as a band singer, gaining varied experiences with bands such as: FELIX SWING BAND, has given me insight into the workings of big band jazz music and its relationship to modern jazz. Also, the deep roots that jazz has within Black music. I've also had the opportunity to sing the standards by the master songwriters that have become the Great American Songbook. The concerts with this band features the music of bandleaders like Fletcher Henderson, Earl Hines, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Eddie Duchin, and others. Our shows have been received with lots of toe tapping, dancing feet and happiness by our audiences. I've also been working over the years with the band KAMELEON. This is a high-energy dance band that has brought happiness to hundreds of newlyweds and their guests. Singing throughout the New York metropolitan area, KAMELEON has been a source of great enjoyment for me. This band has complimented many a wedding with it's classy style, and it's own unique blend of Rock, Funk, Swing, R&B and Latin Classics.
