ANTWON OWENS DRUM KIT/PERCUSSION: Mr. Owens was born and raised in the City of Denver where jazz is thriving. He started out at the tender young age of fifteen with learning music for his first time. Since the graduation of high school in June 2001 Owens has flourished as a musician and has received many awards for his quick pace in learning music; these awards include Jazz Vibe solos (UNC Greely Jazz Festival), Drum set solos and Latin percussion playing (Metropolitan State College Jazz Festival & Denver University Jazz Festival). Owens has had the privilege to mentor and play with high school and middle school students in the Art Street Jazz Big Band under the direction of Gerald Endsley. Owens has earned his degree at Metropolitan State College of Denver for Music Education....

Mr. Owens has taught elementary, middle and high school concert bands, jazz big bands and combos in many different instrumentation settings. Mr. Owens has taught numerous jazz combos, big bands, Latin Ensembles, and mixed instrumentation groups that perform jazz standards, new original compositions and "Nu" Jazz contemporary musics. Mr. Owens is available to teach rhythms sectionals, work on styles of musics from exact areas of the world and teach the "role" of a drum kit player in any setting they can be inserted into. Improvisation and comping or "complementing" with in the rhythm section behind a soloists is a vital factor of a drummer, and Mr. Owens can help students to understand theses concepts within music.
