Jon Berretta started on viola at age 7 and continued until age 17. Upon entering SUNY Plattsburgh as an environmental science major, he was turned on to jazz and funk by a friend. A year later he was playing jazz mandolin for about 8 months. At this point he heard Victor Wooten play the bass and traded his mandolin for a 4-string electric bass which became his first serious intsrument. He got a degree in jazz performance in electric bass from Five Towns College. At this point Jon was playing a lot of jazz guitar. He recieved a full-scholarship to UNLV, where he studied jazz guitar with Joe Lano and taught two guitar classes at the college. Due to many factors he returned to Long Island and finished his masters degree at Five Towns College in guitar, studying with Tony Romano. Since finishing school Jon Berretta has been performing full- time on upright bass which is now his main instrument. Guitar is his secondary instrument.

Jon Berretta has been teaching for 9 years. He enjoys teaching all levels
of guitar and bass. He has also taught at the college level as well and has
taught students as young as 5 to 70 year old.

Create improvised solos over standards and interaction within the rhythm
section. Learn success principles that Napolean Hill pioneered in the
1920's and how to apply them to musical study.
