Ediz Hafizoglu

Musical life of Ediz Hafızoglu, who was born in Silistra/Bulgaria on 19 September 1980 started with his father’s teaching him how to play "darbuka" and especially with his learning to play "saz" as a result of the insistence of his grandfather.

He participated in “Sakin Tuna Art Group” in 1992 founded by his grandfather Mumun Musaoglu and played for about two years in the festivals in many towns and cities of Bulgaria and won awards in competitions. He migrated to Turkey at the end of 1994 and started his education in Kabatas Boys’ High School. He met with drum in this school. He participated in the selections and learned to play the drum and stayed in the band for 4 years. He won championships in many competitions with Kabatas Boys’ School band.

In 2000, when he met Senol Kücükyildirım, he experienced many musical changes. In the same year, he won Mimar Sinan University Industrial Products Design Department and studied there for 3 years. He started to play in clubs professionally with various groups while continuing his study. When he understood that the only thing he wanted to do was music, he decided to leave Mimar Sinan University and in 2003 he won Istanbul Bilgi University Jazz Performance Department with full scholarship. He had found chance to study with Ricky Ford, Cengiz Baysal, Donovan Mixon, Can Kozlu and Selen Gülün. He also took private lessons from Aydin Esen. Many changes occurred after he met Ricky Ford in school. He gave many concerts in many festivals and Jazz Club in Turkey and France with Ricky Ford Orchestra. Especially, after the concerts in Paris Selmer and Archipel, they received invitation again from Paris and performed in Lionel Hampton Jazz Club for three nights successively.

He performs with great musicians like Ricky Ford, Chuck Israils, Dusko Goykovich, Randy Brecker,Baki Duyarlar, Stanislav Mitrovic, Sibel Kose, Onder Focan,Selen Gulun, Kagan Yildiz... etc... in different clubs and festivals like Nardis Jazz Club, Babylon, Istanbul Jazz Center, Gramofon in different countries -Turkey, France, Spain, Greece, Germany...

Ediz Hafızoglu plays "Handmade Ezel" Drums, "Anatolian" Cymbals and "Wincent" sticks.
