Joe Truglio is a drummer, composer, and bandleader based out of Philadelphia and New York. Born and raised in Long Island, Joe was originally inspired to pick up the sticks by his father, a music teacher and performer himself. While attending the University of the Arts Joe established himself as a sought after sideman and ambitious performer. Since graduating in 2005, he has had the opportunity to work with Grammy Award winning artist Dave Valentin, Cuban pianist Elio Villafranca, spanish jazz accordian player Victor Prieto, Venezuelan vibraphonist Alfredo Naranjo, Dave Allen, Christos Rafalides, Universal London recording artist Melody Gardot, and comedian Joe Piscapo. As a recording artist he has worked with Grammy Award winning producer Dave Tozer and can be heard on American Idol Finalist Elliot Yamin’s 2009 album, “Fight For Love”. He has performed hundreds of concerts including dates in Europe and China.
In 2010 he received a grant from the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Composers Forum to assist in the recording of his first studio album entitled Past Life. As leader and composer Joe set out to create a sound that is both subtle and intense. Although jazz remains his biggest influence, he combines his favorite elements of Latin, Rock, Funk, and Classical styles as well. Past Life is comprised of eight original songs and features John Stenger on piano and Ken Pendergast on bass. The album has been in regular rotation on WRTI in Philadelphia since the beginning of 2011 and was featured by disc jockey J. Michael Harrison, host of “The Bridge”, who invited Joe in for a live performance and interview. He has also done interviews on “Jazz with Jeff Duperon” and “The All Request Show” with Zivit Shlank. Joe’s band has played most recently at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia as part of their free music series.
