We're sure you're wondering...how did Gumbohead start? Well...Tim and Andy, who worked for the same ad agency and were Jazzfest veterans, had talked for years about putting together a band that played only New Orleans music. When their respective groups broke up, they decided it was time to go for it. They each knew a few musicians, made a few phone calls, the planets aligned perfectly...blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda...and in July of 1999, Gumbohead was born.

And just where did we get our name? Tim claims it came to him in a dream, a visitation by a tribal-looking dude with a steaming bowl of gumbo perched atop his noggin. We liked the name because it combined GUMBO, which is a delicious stew of many diverse ingredients, just like us (it also immediately conjures images of Louisiana); and HEAD, which we define as wrapping your mind around all things new and different.
