Alec Spiegelman

Alec Spiegelman is a multi-woodwind player living in Medford, MA.

As a saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist, Alec has performed and/or recorded with Bob Moses, Bob Brookmeyer, Apollo Sunshine, Eilen Jewell, Josh Ritter, the Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra, Mark Erelli, Dan Blake, Brian Viglione, Gill Aharon, Audrey Ryan, Nat Mugavero, Entrain, the Chicken Slacks Soul Revue, and Little Joe Cook, among others.

A graduate of New England Conservatory and Harvard College, Alec studied with Steve Lacy, Ran Blake, Bob Brookmeyer, and Bob Moses.

Of late, Alec can be heard around Boston playing rootsy jazz with “modern vintage” songstress Miss Tess, Balkan folk music with Tev Stevig and the Poludaktulos Orchestra, 80's pop songs reimagined for the saxophone duo “Ronald Reagan”, and obscure bebop lines with Lefteris Kordis and Thor Thorvaldsson, in addition to singing his original pop songs with the experimental folk orchestra “Cuddle Magic”.

Alec's original compositions for jazz ensemble -- most often enlisting Jeff Galindo, Eric Hofbauer, Nat Mugavero -- attempt the quixotic task of blending those influences.

“a very gifted clarinet, flute and bass clarinet player ... He's quite a guy” - Bob Brookmeyer (www.bobbrookmeyer.com)
