Cleveland Jazz Project

Having met and formed their group while students at Cleveland Heights High School, the Cleveland Jazz Project lays out adventurous modern jazz with a sublimity and power all its own. The Cleveland Jazz Project is:

Nathan Davis
A rising star on the Cleveland jazz scene, Nathan Davis has studied under various Cleveland saxophone masters, and has performed with many jazz greats such as Jack Shantz, Joe Lovano, and Maureen McGovern. He currently is a jazz studies major on scholarship at the University of Akron where he studies with Jack Shantz and Rich Shanklin.

Jacob Bergson
Jacob Bergson began his study of the piano with Linda Miller at the age of six. Throughout high school he was the recipient of many musical awards, including the Music in the Parks National Music Competition Outstanding Soloist Award. Jacob has studied with Greg Slawson and Dan Wall in Cleveland, with Phil DeGreg and Jim Connerley at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, and with Jacob Sacks, Dan Weiss, Reggie Workman, and Billy Harper at The New School in New York City. He has performed with Cleveland legends such as Paul Ferguson and Bobby Selvaggio, as well as international artists such as Bob Mintzer. Jacob currently studies on scholarship at the New School.

Benjamin Bloom
A fearless and creative musician, Benjamin Bloom took up the double bass before his freshman year of high school. He studied for five years with Tracy Rowell, and also took master classes with Francois Rabbath, Lynn Seaton, and Dave Morgan. Benjamin has played with many Cleveland jazz greats including Paul Ferguson, Bobby Selvaggio, and Ryun Louie. He is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at McGill University in Montreal.

James Muschler
James Muschler is one of the many superb drummers and percussionists who call Cleveland home. While attending Cleveland Heights High School he received much musical recognition, winning the senior soloist concerto competition as well as the Jim Bane and Robert Bergantino Awards. He has studied with Ryan Louie, Jamey Haddad, Eric Harland, Reggie Workman, and Doug Weiss. James is currently on scholarship at the New School in New York City, where he studies with William Parker and Dan Weiss.
