James Hayes

Based in London, French piano player and composer James Hayes has left behind the glamorous world of finance to fulfill his love of music.

After having participated to numerous funk, soul and pop bands as well as jazz small ensembles to big-band, James decided in 2006 to launch his very own quintet, in the style of the Blue-Note legendary combos of the 50-60's.

Playing only original material, the band recreates the moods and genres of the greats of the day--Jazz Messengers, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Jackie McLean, Lee Morgan, Monk, Mingus, Davis, Coltrane etc...

Both albums "Vague Nouvelle" and "Thesaurus", available through iTunes, amazon MP3 and www.jazzcds.co.uk, offer an eccletic collection of original hard-bop tunes.

"Pianist James swings straight into late-50's hard bop territory with the first cut, "Bop affair", and sets out his stall as a top drawer modern jazz exponent. Highlights include the charming soloing on That peaceful hour" and the exquisite ensemble playing on "Loungin' at Lords". --Keith Ames, Musician

"Pianist/composer James Hayes has organised a spirited band to execute his refreshing debut cd "Vague Nouvelle". Particular highlights are "Swamp Bash" a groov-ey romp and the samba-tinged "Single Fare to Bahia". Sweet stuff." --Frank Griffith, jazzorg.co.uk
