Guy Sion

Guy Sion was born in 1980 and raised in Ashdod, a small city on Israel Mediterranean coastline were there was not much to do in the afternoons except going to the beach or studying music in the music Conservatory. Guy started playing the Recorder at age seven. At nine he switched to the Alto Saxophone and joined the city of Ashdod youth band. During his years at the Conservatory, Guy played different kinds of saxophones, from the Baritone Sax to the Soprano Sax, toured with the band among other places to Germany, Spain, China and gained knowledge in classical music. At the age of thirteen, after playing a Charlie Parker solo in a lesson, Guy fell in love with Jazz. In 1995 Guy attended a summer workshop at Rimon School of Jazz in Ramat Hasharon. In 1998, two weeks before going to the army, Guy attended a jazz summer workshop in Perugia, Italy, and won a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. Finishing the army in 2000, Guy started studying Jazz music at Rimon School of Jazz. During the two years in Rimon Guy played with several ensembles in- and outside the school. He played with the Hulon Big Band, performed in the Tel Aviv jazz festival and was active in the Israeli jazz scene. In 2001 he won another scholarship to Berklee College of Music, but decided to continue his studies in the Conservatory of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Guy played regularly in jazz clubs and cafes in Amsterdam and in cities all around the Netherlands. He also played for 3 years as part of a house band in a monthly festival named Breathing Bijlmer, a festival that brings new talents on stage. In April and May of 2003, he toured with the famous theatre actress Jetty Mathurin through the Netherlands in the Mathurin Meets Music Tour. In 2004 Guy joined the Amsterdam based Jewish band Or Le Israel. The band preformed different styles of music from Pop to klezmer and played at events in London, Vienna, Basel, Antwerp and other major cities in Europe. In December 2005 Guy graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatory and moved to New York.
