Born: June 4, 1960    Primary Instrument: Vocal

Jazz singer Alyson Green has gained recognition for her sensitive and unique interpretation of some of the great jazz classics. Jazz has always played a large part in Alyson's life. Her father was a jazz drummer and her maternal grandmother played saxophone with, amongst others, The BBC Radio Big Band. As a child Alyson would listen to Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme Records while her friends would be listening to pop music. She first trained as an actress and singer, and appeared in many high profile stage,tv and film productions. She also toured the U.K with Glen Miller's brother Herb in the Herb Miller Big Band before forming her own quartet. When her 1st CD 'SECRET' was released in 2005 Sarah Ward (Jazz FM Radio presenter)called it “A stunning version. Everyone is looking for those elusive new songs to make sense for jazz and Alyson has done it with imagination and skill” Since then she has been touring regularly and reaching a wider fan base selling out several times recently at such top London venues as Pizza Express Jazz Club, The 606 Club, and The Bulls Head, Barnes. Alyson releases her new CD “ON MY WAY TO YOU” in June 2009. It is a mix of re-worked contemporary pop classics in a jazz style as well as some rare jazz gems. 'I love to take a song and totally turn it on its head, doing something different with it' says Alyson. With re-workings of songs ranging from Kate Bush's The man with the child in his eyes, Oasis's Wonderwall Stevie Wonder's Another Star through to Gerswin's I love you Porgy, there is something for all jazz fans with a contemporary twist. Alyson has collaborated with some of Britain's finest jazz musicans on the album including pianist Mark Edwards, bassist Andy Cleyndert, John Parricelli on guitar, Troy Miller on drums (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson) percussionist Karl Vanden Bossche and Ben Castle on Saxophone. The release date is June 17th, and Alyson will be launching it at a special gig at London's premier jazz club 'The 606 Club' with her band and special guests.

“Green is a sweet-toned storyteller whose completely unaffected style fuses an innate feel for the musical phrase with an understated delivery that quietly demands the listener’s attention. She brings to her singing a wealth of performing experience and musical savvy”
Peter Quinn : Jazzwise.

“Alyson Green is a storyteller and loves to dramatise the lyrics of everything she sings. Added to a strong, warm and resonant voice, it makes for a potent combination, especially when singing in company with a combo of some of Britain’s best. She sings with emotive warmth, making the lyrics tell the story effectively, as all good vocalists should but few manage to achieve.”
Derek Ansell : Jazz Journal

“Green was besotted with jazz from an early age via her father’s jazz drumming sessions for the likes of Mel Tormé and Sarah Vaughan. So it’s with a depth of knowledge and no shortage of talent that she shows her true range and subtle skills as a classy interpreter of quality pop and jazz songs new and old. With support from the cream of legit UK players like pianist Mark Edwards, cool saxophonist Ben Castle, and inspired guitarist Jim Mullen, Green makes even melodic rockers Maroon 5’s ‘Secret’ into a brooding mood piece, devoid of irony and full of integrity. Green is certainly a talent to watch for the future”
