Tim Davies

Ever since he was given a cassette of Australia’s Daly Wilson Big Band at age 12, Tim Davies had the dream to write for and play drums in his own big band. That dream was realized in 1998 when he formed his first big band in Melbourne, Australia. Although it only had a short run before Davies moved to the States, the band made quite an impact. Since 2000 Davies has led a big band in Los Angeles featuring top session and touring players. The band's first album, Epic, was released in 2003 and a new album, Dialmentia (Origin Records) is available in May 2009. Grounded in traditional swing, Davies' music adds elements of classical, rock, metal and hip hop, creating a blend that is truly unique. This is not your grandfather's big band music!

Davies music is now played all over the world. He has been a guest conductor and performer with big bands in Australia, America and Europe and is often commissioned.

When not working on big band music, Davies can be found working as an arranger, orchestrator and conductor in Hollywood.

Whereas ...

The Tim Davies Big Band: Epic

Read "Epic" reviewed by Jack Bowers

I must confess to some degree of apprehension when asked to review a “big band with turntables” whose “loops and synths” were “programmed by Ben Davis.” To paraphrase Shakespeare, such an enterprise doth not usually augur well. And indeed, there are moments on drummer Tim Davies’ album, Epic, especially on “Iron Chef Big Band” or “Chocolate Requiem,” when the Bard seems utterly prescient. Happily, there are many others on which the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” miss their mark ...
