Primary Instrument: Band/ensemble/orchestra

Borderline Ensemble is Denmarks first orchestra, who creates music, exclusively with the sign language Soundpainting. As if that's not dangerous enough, the Ensemble has joined forces with Danish multiartist Torsten ”T.S.” Høeg to release their debut, Beware.

Soundpainting is the live composing sign language created by New York composer Walter Thompson. Leading the 8 other musicians of Borderline Ensemble through the unknown terretories of the livecomposition, and using more than 750 Soundpainting-signs, are the two conductors Gustav Rasmussen og Ketil Duckert.

On Beware, this spontanously composed music is created around a series of poems by multiartist T.S. Høeg, all about two main-subjects: ”Music” and ”Love”. All recordings, music as well as reading, were recorded ”live” in the studio ” and are found in their original form on the album, without subsequent editing.

In the Ensemble we find a line of the most talented musicians from the young Danish jazz-environment, and the listener is invited along for a journey in a collectively controlled improvisation, where everything is possible and noone knows where the music will end.

Borderline Ensemble is funded by Bikubenfonden and have been nominated Specialensemble in 2008 by the Danish Art Council.
