Her raw interpretation is an ever moving time capsule, ranging from reflections of our long gone past, to the hunger she posses for her bright future & ability to bring something new to the music.
Her musicality, powerful musicianship & liquid phrasing are evident in her motile rhythmical motion.This is a singer that stands out among the one per centers in the Jazz idiom. Her presence is a noticeable contrast to the majority of today’s singers. It is refreshing to see the passion, versatility, originality & conviction coming from with in.
LaRe is an 8x award winning songwriter, winning awards from ASCAP, Billboard Magazine & four ASCAP plus awards for four consecutive years. LaRe has a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from one of the most sought out Jazz University’s in the world; The New School University, majoring in Jazz vocal performance & a minor in piano. She was chosen to open for Benny Powell in her senior year. She is an accomplished Composer & Vocalize with a vast catalogue of original lyrics to the melodies of John Coltrane & Dizzy Gillespie.
She floats between the sensational standards of The Great American Songbook & adores the more obscure tunes, making a tune her own every time, yet always respecting the melody. LaRe is very engaging with her audience & her musicians; quite a vivacious leader. The encounter is an unexpected journey- always highly appreciated by the listener. Her influences range from Shirley Horn, Abbey Lincoln, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald,Carmen McRae & Anita O’Day
LaRe has had the opportunity to work & study with some very presidential leaders in the Jazz scene such as Reggie Workman, Charles Tolliver, Barry Harris, Chico Hamilton, Amy London, Sheila Jordon & Mark Murphy.She has had the privilege to share the stage with some of the greatest musicians Jazz has to offer such as Rufus Reid, James Weidman, Henry Grimes, Akua Dixon, Paul Lieberman, Aaron Graves, Bertha Hope and a host of many others.
LaRe was born & raised in Utica NY. From a very early age, she has had a versatile musical experience, beginning in musical theatre with “The Upstagers”, studying classically; vocally from a master tenor who served in the Metropolitan Opera in Florida; who prepared her for a musical journey she only dreamed about; leading her to her long search for her musical niche- Jazz!
In 2008 LaRe was selected as one of the top 12 Jazz singers in NYC’s annual JazzMobile Competition and made it to the final three that was judged by Dr Billy Taylor & T.S.Monk. Following this was an unforgettable event, where LaRe completed an auspicious encounter to Japan where she performed in one of the top six Jazz venues in all of Japan, for the month of August 2008. Two years previous to this, she began a weekly show called Jazz Fever & it became one of Nyc’s most buzzed about celebrity Jazz hangouts & jam sessions that lasted almost two years.
LaRe has performed at top Jazz venues such as the Zenith Sky Lounge- Nagoya Japan, the Kitano- Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and Sweet Rhythm. She is received & recognized by the Jazz radio community including WBGO, WHCR & WOR radio.
LaRe is a member of International Women in Jazz, ASCAP and Chamber Music of America. The journey is just beginning. LaRe completed her first, highly anticipated CD that will be released in the fall of 2009.
