John Lander

Born (1992) and raised in Brooklyn, New York, John Lander has been playing piano since age of 5; primarily self taught, with no real lessons until he reached adolescence. Over the years, John's skill rapidly increased with the mentoring of such musical figures as Paula Chan Bing, Arturo O'Farrill, Alvin Atkinson, and Frank Kimbrough. John has performed at Lincoln Center, Gracie Mansion, the Apollo, Sugar Ray's, Harlem School of the Arts, Smalls Jazz Club and many other venues in the New York area, and is a member of the New York All City Jazz Band. Open and malleable, yet knowledgeable and quick minded, John has acquired a style all his own and a unique, personal connection with his instrument. He has been hired multiple times as a pianist (solo and with band), as an accompanist, as an transcriber/editor, and as a teacher. He has received an endorsement from East Coast Pianos, been awarded scholarships to WPU and Juilliard/SNOW Summer Jazz Camps, and recently won the Young Arts Jazz Regional Award. He is a graduate of Talent Unlimited High School in Manhattan and currently attends the Conservatory at SUNY Purchase in Westchester.
