”Quantcast”/Announcing the debut CD release by one of British Columbia's premiere instrumental jazz groups. “Orchidology” features eight original jazz compositions by band members Jon Miller, Roy Styffe and James Young plus one composition by Brit singer/songwriter Ross Mitson. Produced by local studio wizard Wynn Gogol, “Orchidology” has been appearing in the top 10 on the !Earshot Magazine and Chart Attack weekly jazz charts since its release in April 2009. Featuring some of the BC's best jazz musicians: Rob Cheramy on guitar, Roy Styffe on alto and soprano saxes, James Young on upright bass and leader Jon Miller on drums. Jacket design and drawings by Victoria artist and musician Doug Galbraith.   In either trio or quartet Jon Miller's groups have been playing their brand of modal and post-bop informed jazz in the Victoria area since 2003, including several edtions of Victoria JazzFest International and regular appearances at Hermann's Jazz Club. Leader Miller graduated McGill University's jazz performance programme, worked on the Montreal jazz scene in the late 80's and spent the 90's in Europe and the US.  He has performed with Skip Bey, VIc Vogel, Greg Clayton, Andre Leroux, Charlie Hunter and Calder Spanier, among others. The 2007 addition of Roy Styffe on alto sax has been a great plus, his keen melodic sense and strong rhythmic drive meshing flawlessly with the playing styles of guitarist Cheramy, drummer Jon Miller and bassist James Young.
