I am very proud to announce that my cd, bossanovafied is on the first round list for nomination consideration for the 52nd Grammy's.

Kristine Mills is the winner of the 2009 Houston Press Music Awards Best Female Vocalist!

This “bold, blonde entertainer outta the old school” and native Houstonian was also nominated for the prestigious 2009 Houston Press Music Awards Musician of the Year and two consecutive years in the Best Jazz category. Houston Modern Luxury Magazine named Kristine Hottest Female Jazz Vocalist on The 2007 Lust List.

I'm digging Kristine Mills' sly, playful way with a jazz tune. She sings like she's up to something wickedly good. And there's more to come Joey Guerra, Houston Chronicle www.chron.com

This August Kristine was selected to headline the three-city tour of the 2009 Brazilian International Jazz Festival. Kristine and her Rio-based ensemble performed classic jazz tunes, bossa nova and cuts from bossanovafied to sold-out theaters in Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte. Two years ago Kristine appeared as guest vocalist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra in the 2007 Brazilian International Jazz Festival in Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro. Kristine returned from her tour in Brazil back to Houston just in time to open the Houston Brazilian Festival on September 5.

She has been impressing international audiences and music critics with her varied repertoire, vocal prowess and command of various languages since she launched her professional jazz vocalist career in the early 90s at Ovations in Houston. Since then, highlights of her career included performances at iconic jazz spots such as regular appearances at Snug Harbor in New Orleans, she also sang with select members of the Duke Ellington Orchestra for the 50th Jubilee Celebration of the Mies van der Rohe Society in Chicago, IL. Plus, her second cd, Kristine Mills - Playing with the Big Boys LIVE, was recorded during a live hometown performance at Cezanne with two veteran members of the Duke Ellington Orchestra. With the release of that second cd, Kristine is now a voting member of the Recording Academy (The Grammys).

Every once in a while you see a live performance so good it sends shivers up your spine. Be ready for some shiver action when jazz singer Kristine Mills steps onstage Houston Press

In May 2009, Kristine released her third cd, bossanovafied, a collection of her original songs, arranged in the classic style of bossa nova and recorded in Rio de Janeiro. She celebrated the Saturday, May 2 Houston release with two standing-room-only performances at the Mucky Duck, Houstons premier acoustic venue. Kristine released bossanovafied in Austin on June 12, 2009. As of the printing of this press release, bossanovafied is on the first round list for nomination consideration in “Best Jazz Vocal Album” category of the 52nd Grammy's.

Recorded in Rio de Janeiro with Brazilian pianist and collaborator Paulo Midosi, bossanovafied is polished and sophisticated from start to finish. Vocally, Mills goes from fragile, barely-there whispers to unleashed wails and, even among the uniformly excellent tunes, a few still manage to stand out. From the first note of her jazzy rendition of “I Love Paris,” I was instantly immersed into the music. Listening to her voice, which ranges from throaty and soulful to soft and sensual, you forget about everything else. It's just you, Kristine and her 4-piece band...and of course the other 100 people sitting with you in the room.

“Kristine Mills' pure jazz has become part of the soundtrack of Houston, which makes perfect sense. Like the city itself, her music combines an elemental strength at its core with an almost brazen sex appeal you have to experience to understand. This woman has mad skills.” Jeff Gremillion, Editor-in-chief, HOUSTON MODERN LUXURY

You haven't heard jazz music, until you hear Kristine Mills. She puts a new spin on standards and makes old classics new again. Mills has it all - range, style, technique and, most importantly, heart.

I love the swing. I love the ballads! And, oh the bossa. What a sound! What else can you expect from (her) team of musicians. Kristines voice is delightful! Jeff Kelley, 90.9 KTSU radio

Beautiful, bold, and blessed with a set of killer vocal cords, Houston-based songbird Kristine Mills has the whole package. Her latest album, Bossanovafied (released tomorrow), represents a culmination of her astonishing singing and songwriting talents. Crooning soulful lyrics with a sassy, old-school flavor, Mills embraces the classic style of Bossa Nova through this intimate collection of songs.” Brilliant Magazine - blog Bossa ??” Babe May 1st, 2009 | By Sam | Category: bRILLIANT Blog By Courtney Cavender

She was most dynamic when sitting down at the piano to sing and play original material that will be released in 2009 on bossanovafied. She was haunting in profile in the quieter moments of those songs, leaving the audience aching for more.
