Born: March 9, 1984 Primary Instrument: Sax, baritone
The first thing that will hit you about Billy Carrion Jr., is his SOUND, regarded as The most unique tone since Gerry Mulligan. Respecting the baritone players of the past, Billy chooses to dedicate his time to sounding as different as possible than past legends; Billy Jr. believes that achieving a unique tone is his only way to show respect to them.
The next thing that you will notice about Billy Carrion Jr, is that he's different; from his influences and study materials, to his improvisations, and even his unorthodox technique of playing the saxophone. Even to go as far as how he learned music, without the benefit of affording camps and colleges, competitions, lessons, and the lot that most musicians go through in their young career. Of course he, with advice from his high school band director and classical teacher in his short college tenure, studied the standard. Young Billy took to things he loved outside of music though as well, and eventually found the relation: after set on his musical quest to find the ultimate power of music: creativity. The best way to explain it is simply this: go to a show and find out for yourself, because this man's musicianship is beyond words.

The saxophone solo on, 'Say Goodbye To The USS Figment Of
The Imagination,' is truly amazing; it takes the entire
record and closes it in such a unique way. I wonder where
we'll see him next!
