Composer, saxophonist, and bandleader Dan White is a constantly evolving artist whose distinctive music is focused on interplay and inventive writing. His quartet recently won the 2010 Rochester Jazz Star Competition and won a spot at the Rochester Jazz Festival. He is also an Undergraduate Research Fellow at the Ohio State University. White plans to release his second album Between the Lines in Spring 2011.
The Saxophonist and composer comes from a musical family: his grandfather a jazz bassist and music teacher, his uncle a music teacher, and four of his cousins are currently studying music. He grew up in Buffalo, New York, where he started playing piano at age eight, and saxophone at age nine. His true obsession with improvisation and composition started as a thirteen-year-old when he attended a Joshua Redman concert with his father. White states, “My music is an extension of my personality. My musical influences cover many genres. My goal is to merge these influences into an amalgam of refreshing and creative music.” following high school and colligate organizations NYSSMA, IAJE, ECMEA, Ohio State USG, JECO, and The Ohio State University. Dan, 20 years old, studies Music Education and Jazz Performance at The Ohio State University. Currently a Junior, he looks forward to a fulfilling career in performing, composing and teaching.
