Born: May 12, 1980 Primary Instrument: Guitar, electric
Adam De Lucia is a musician / composer / producer who has forged creative partnerships since founding Hi-Bred Productions in 2004. His network includes stalwart musicians, burgeoning talent and industry luminaries.
“Because Hi-Bred is a sort of Collective, everybody has equal share of the work. Every contributor is equally talented. Every participant therefore is made a Creative Partner.” . . . Adam De Lucia
Partners of the studio who have participated on releases by him includes Michael Ghegan, a stellar talent and multi-instrumentalist in high-demand, who performed sax and keyboards on De Lucia's latest album Robot Sex Machine and a stirring accompaniment to De Lucia on Caution (Rise of the Tyrant) from Hypnotist. Jordan Perlson, drummer to Becca Stevens who has provided support to Sara Bareilles and the fan-favorite Blue Man Group, laid a rich and propulsive rhythm down playing in the drum seat on Robot Sex Machine. Chris Tarry, a four-time Juno Award winner, appeared as a guest soloist on Adam’s original composition “Cycle Plus One.” Mr. De Lucia also collaborated with lyricist / vocalist Katy Hylton, M.M. the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY, to record and release “5 Miles To Empty,” yet another of his originals. Narada Michael Walden, Grammy Award winning, multi- platinum producer and drummer to John McLaughlin's legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra, cleared Cosmic Strut to be sampled in the cinematic Cycle Plus One.
Inspired by the desire to communicate through music, De Lucia began to play the guitar at the age of 15. Particularly, Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix from a record collection his father kept and his father’s simple recommendation that “some people say Jimi could make the guitar talk” imbued his imagination with the musical spark. Since the start, Adam has structured his musical education within a traditional vocabulary. He sheds all keys and many scales in his practice routine. Bolstering his routine: private lessons with masterful players (often Berklee College of Music graduates), including a year of study with Oz Noy. But studying most notably since 2004 with Doug Clarke, who attended the Berklee College Of Music on merit scholarship, learned and performed with the bona fide Traditional Jazz and Bebop guitar legend Tal Farlow.
Adam had mixed and mastered all music in the workflow of the studio since 2006, however, beginning in Summer 2012 he began to partner with The Carriage House, a Grammy Award winning studio in Stamford, CT, for mixing and mastering. His engineering responsibility still includes detailed Musical Instrument Digital Interface programming. De Lucia takes MIDI programming very seriously. He aims to program electronic music that is indiscernible to the listener, which is a hard target. Parallel to his guitar playing, he hopes to dispel taboos about electronic music with clear musical programming.
“To program the instrument is to play the instrument.” . . . Adam De Lucia
He concentrates on customizing software instruments and note-by-note dynamics in particular, beside the basics—pitch and perfectly timed rhythm as the strength of MIDI—to emulate human phrasing, programming an electronic instrument as if he was playing the guitar. His highest objective is playing the guitar in a musical way.
“Performing and recording with Adam De Lucia is a wonderful experience.
He is a rare artist whose free artistic creativity combines with his broad
of technology, blending perfectly to produce a spirited, intense and moving
