Michel Navedo

Puerto Rican born/New Orleans native, Michel Navedo was by age 21 an active member of the New Orleans music scene as singer and trumpeter. Since then Michel has acted as band leader/principal player in groups ranging in styles as diverse as Swing, Jazz, Latin Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Brazilian, Salsa, Flamenco and other World music, Hip Hop, Brass Band, Big Band, Symphonic, Indie, Pop, Rock, Dub, and Electronic. He has shared the stage with such diverse acts as Roy Hargrove, Perry Ferrell, Chucho Valdez, GWAR, Randy Newman, and De La Soul. After growing up in New Orleans, Michel lived and studied Jazz Performance in Austin, Texas for five years winning peoples’ choice for best world music band and having the privilege of being asked to perform at the Fiesta Del Fuego in Santiago, Cuba where he stayed on to study Afro Cuban music with the great Cuban trumpeter Maestro Inaudis Paisan Mallet. In Lisbon, Portugal he began performing and writing Electronic Music as part of the Lisbon based group Fusion Lab; Michel continues composing and performing in this genre to this day. In California, he continued music studies and performance, this time with a focus on composition and classical trumpeting. He currently resides in Seattle where he plays a regular Sunday afternoon Jazz show at 15th Ave. Coffee and Tea from 4-6pm. With a great love of theatre and film, as well as, literature and lyric, Michel's current focus in Jazz is reinterpreting the classic Jazz compositions by the great composers of the era, Gershwin, Cole Porter, Rogers and Hart, with respect to how these songs were reinterpreted by great musicians like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and others. Michel will be recording a Jazz album as featured artist scheduled for release Valentine's 2010.
