Born: June 10, 1982    Primary Instrument: Vocal

Karolina Glazer is one of the most original vocalists of the recent years. For some she is a rising star of Polish jazz; for others, a person who cannot be placed in any musical convention, who created her own individual world. She specializes in an instrumental approach to voice and directs a lot of her attention to scat improvisation. She is a vocalist, composer, arranger and producer. She is known for her exceptional vocal abilities, vast musical imagination and experiments with the sound of her vocal by using her 4-octave scale. In June 2009 her debut album “Normal” was published by Polish music label “Fonografika” and in September 2009 the same album was released by German music records ” Jaro Medien. In the same moment she began her European tour with her band.

Born in June 10, 1982, she was always surrounded by artists. From the very beginning she was looking for new ways to express herself. Being a child she took interest in painting, followed shortly by guitar playing and singing. She learned from the best. Krystyna Prońko, Aneta Łastik, her mentor ” Anna Serafińska and few meetings with great Kevin Mahogany. These are the artists that helped her to find her own way in the world of vocalism. She attended several International Vocal Workshops of SLS Technique with such teachers as Dean Kaelin. Later she was very interested in Complete Vocal Technique and at the moment she is also a vocal coach.

Her musical way started with a victory in XXX International Meeting of Jazz Vocalists in Zamość. After that was lots of festivals and concerts. But when in July’s edition of an American monthly “Singer Universe” in 2007, she was recognized as one of the five most promising vocalists in the world and she was the first Pole to win such laurels, her career really started. Often she gets invited to many different music projects. She collaborated with such outstanding musicians as Marek Raduli, Krzysztof Ścierański, Bogdan Hołownia, Marek Bałata or Bernard Maseli. She is proud of being complimented by such music legends as Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski and Urszula Dudziak. She took part in the numerous jazz festivals (Ingolstadt Jazztage 2009, Dresden Jazztage 2009, Jazz Goes to Town 2009, Krakowskie Zaduszki Jazzowe 2009, Pilsner Urquell & Jazz 2008, Głogów Jazz Meetings 2007). In 2006 she qualified to semi-finals of „Top Trendy” Festival in Sopot, and in July 2007 she will represent Poland in The International Jazz Singer Contest „Lady Summertime”. She played concerts in Germany, Austria, France, Sweden, Finland, Czech, Ukraine and Poland.

She is the youngest artist featuring on the Polonia Records' best selling compilation „The Best of Polish Smooth Jazz ” vol2” that gathers the best Polish jazz recordings of the 2005. She has been writing articles about modern vocalism for the “Jazzi Magazin” since its reactivation and “Future Music”. She also conducts numerous vocal workshops for the youth.

Her concerts are always a journey across various cultural spots of the world combined with harmony and jazz tradition. As a composer and arranger of her concerts is not afraid of style diversity which she thinks is her advantage and easily mixes African rhythm, Arabic scales, Scandinavian spaces and white jazz vocalism. Her concerts are pure eclecticism and a trip through her world of inspirations. Cause she is a vocalist who treats her voice so instrumentally that during the concerts she only sings songs composed with a real time voice. Thanks to the digital instrumental system Karolina puts different tracks on each other creating by this a sort of choir.

People say her voice calms down, forces to stop in this rushed world and reflect upon the most important aspects. And so is her single and the clip announcing her debut record. “Prayer” lets us take a breathe and.. magnetizes. On the other hand, we can hear her other tracks filled with passion and energetic rhythms which cannot let you be seated all the time. Karolina mixes Arabic scales with Latin sounds, drum’n’base with jazz.

„...smile, joy and passion... - that is Karolina all over. Always full of faith in art and her dreams. Never strays from her way. Experimenting with the new sounds, yet she is still humbled by the vastness and beauty of the history of music.

„…the most spectacular and eneregizing performance was Karolina Glazer`s one, who won the heart of the audience at the very beginning of the show. Karolina`s energy, enthusiasm and fantastic scat technique made the listeners get up from their chairs very quickly. Her interpretation of Jean Pierre, Route 66 and Cold Duck Time was nothing but daring ” especially the latter piece which got the audience going…” Jazzforum

She calls herself “a white woman with a white voice” observing the world and its sounds. It gives her inspiration and a sense for her musical search, and makes her the citizen of the world. Studying the musical cultures of the world is her passion; you can hear it in an every sound she sings.
