Primary Instrument: Trumpet

Kasumi Uraguchi was born on November 26th, 1986 and brought up in Kumamoto City, Japan. Kasumi’s musical journey began when she began playing the piano at the age of four. She started playing the trumpet in her early teens as a member of her school’s brass band and after graduating her junior high school, she entered Luther music high school where she focused in classical performance on trumpet. While studying classical trumpet performance, she began studying different aspects of music such as advanced harmony and ear training. Soon afterwards, Kasumi became interested in management, and when she became the president of her brass band in the third year of her high school, she successfully introduced new practice habits and group enthusiasm/trust that greatly improved the ensembles performance. After the major improvement Kasumi brought to her brass band, the ensemble received a silver prize and the Promising new player prize from the federation of Kumamoto brass band. During the same period, Kasumi became a member of the famous Kumamoto Youth Symphony Orchestra. Upon graduation, she received a prestigious award from the school district for making a substantial positive influence on the Luther music high school brass band. This was a really great impact for her music career, as it gave her the confidence to move forward in a music career. In September 2005, she entered world famous Berklee College of Music, studying contemporary music and production major with the help of a scholarship earned from the Asia World Scholarship Tour. She also received the Berklee College of Music Professional Writing Awards (Wind Ensemble Achievement) in Spring 2007. Upon graduating Berklee College of Music in 2008, Kasumi has been free-lancing in the New England area, promoting her music and herself as a disciplined and ready performer.
