Tecora Rogers was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and has been singing since joining the Angelic Choir at her church at the age of six. Now internationally renowned, Tecora Rogers' gift is her ability to reach into the soul of the listener and make them feel the warmth she feels as she communicates through song. This talented “triple threat” (singer, writer and producer) also hosts her own television program since August 1996. The Tecora Rogers Show airs every Monday at 10:00pm on Channel 19 in Chicago. Tecora hosted her own radio program in 1998 on WYCA, Hammond, IN.
Tecora performed the American National Anthem at the Chicago Sky WNBA Game in September 2008. She performed in the legendary Jazz Unites Jazz Festival in Chicago in August 2007 and in 2008 Tecora opened for Dr. Donald Byrd, renowned trumpeter. Tecora was invited to teach gospel music at the Moscow College of Improvised Music in Moscow, Russia. She developed three choral groups who performed in a final concert on Sunday 27 July 2008 in Moscow. Tecora also performed concerts at the House of Composers and Jazz Town in Moscow. In addition, she was invited to perform at the 5th Annual Blues Festival in Vologda, Russia. Tecora recently completed a 10-concert jazz tour throughout Russia in March 2009. Each venue has invited her back and she returned in July 2009 and completed a 13-concert tour in October/November 2009.
Tecora coordinated and directed the music program for the opening of the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago in May 2009.
Other credits for Tecora include performances with several jazz greats including: Wilton Felder, Saxophonist (Crusaders); Von Freeman, Saxophonist; Ronnie Laws, Saxophonist; George Freeman, Legendary Guitarist and many others. Tecora also performs gospel and jazz throughout the United States, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Belgium, Germany and Asia. In 2003 Tecora had the opportunity to establish her own gospel group “The Chicago Spirituals” who toured Italy for the first time in December 2004 and continues to tour annually. Tecora Rogers & the Chicago Spirituals are the official gospel group for Spirit of Chicago Cruises and they are completing their 3rd year performing the gospel cruises for the cruise line.
Tecora performed the lead vocals for the international television and radio commercial “KFC is Cookin”. Tecora also performed background vocals on the Starhub Television Commercial titled “Smile” in Singapore. Tecora's role can be easily identified by the adlibs heard throughout the commercial.
Tecora's repertoire includes jazz, blues, pop and gospel. Her extensive engagements include performances at many Chicago festivals. As well as, several guest appearances at Harry's in Singapore, the Oriental Hotel Bamboo Room in Bangkok, CJW in Shanghai and many other appearances in France, Italy and Switzerland. Tecora was the “Artist in Residence” at the Regent Hotel Singapore; she performed at the Sirocco Restaurant in Bangkok and the American Ambassador's Residence in Bangkok with jazz legend Eldee Young. Tecora received a personal invitation from the American Ambassador for Thailand (Ambassador Ralph Boyce) to perform for her country’s 2005 Independence Day Celebration in Bangkok Thailand. Tecora performed with the USAF Jazz Band of the Pacific stationed at Yokota Air Base in Japan.
Tecora’s discography includes: “Jazzy Lady” Tecora’s latest jazz release featuring 15 of the greatest jazz standards and has world-wide distribution and appeal. “God, My God” Tecora’s latest gospel release is a very powerful and very inspirational CD. “Tecora” the self-titled gospel CD which combines the soulfulness of traditional gospel with the freshness of contemporary gospel like no other release has ever done. Track #5 “Light of the World” presents a jazzy gospel feel and features Chicago’s own Orbert Davis on trumpet. Tecora’s jazz CD “Tecora Rogers Live in Singapore” is packed with 12 jazz and blues favorites. Finally, “I’m Going Home” is a gospel CD of traditional music with Tecora and the Chicago Spirituals. ...Vocalist Tecora Rogers was next as she sang The Nearness of You. As she was serenading the crowd, with this beautiful ballad, from the rear of the stage, with trumpet in hand strolls in Corey Wilkes. With his horn muted, he walked up to the mic and continued to accompany Tecora. She didn't realize what was happening but never missed a beat. It was a beautiful sight...
