Jazz underGround

Jazz underGround is a network of NYC's greatest jazz musicians with NYC churches that want to sponsor free or donation only concerts for the public.

Musicians include John Pattitucci, Mark Turner, Greg Tardy, Gretchen Parlato, Johnathan Blake, Ben Street, Jaleel Shaw, Mike Moreno, Aaron Parks, Aaron Goldberg, Nasheet Watts, Jon Gordon, Alan Ferber Nonet w/strings, George Garzone, and countless other fantastic musicians.

Churches include The Church for All Nations (417 West 57th-Hell's Kitchen), New Beginnings (199 North 7th-Williamsburg), the Neighborhood Church (269 Bleecker-the Village), Messiah's Covenant Community Church (2702 Quentin Rd-Brooklyn)

From the faux chic cover and the name “the Jazz Underground" I expected this either to be another tired smooth jazz / funk record, or an exploration of today's avant-garde. It is neither. Instead, this is mainstream jazz played with energy and verve.
