Ben Scholz is a drummer/percussionist who lives and works in Chicago. A native of Portland OR, Ben began studying classical piano at age 8 and continued his studies through college.
While attending high school and working as a sub in the Pacific Northwest music scene, Ben became interested in jazz. He was accepted to the University of North Texas where he studied with renowned jazz instructor Ed Soph. After graduating, Ben moved to Chicago and found success both as a performer and a teacher.
Living in Chicago has given him the opportunity to work with jazz innovators such as Aaron Neville, Roy Hargrove, and Bill Watrous. Ben frequently works in television and has appeared on MTV, WGN-9 and at Second City.
Currently, Ben is set to release “Shiny Metal Objects” the first album with his jazz-fusion group The Elec Tet, featuring guitar phenomenon Oz Noy.

Ben is currently accepting students in the north Chicagoland area. Students age 7 and older are welcome to study drumset and/or percussion at his studo. Depending on the student's individual level, lessons will focus on technique, style, sight-reading, and practice routines. Rates are $35 for 45 minutes. Ben has held many clinics while on tour in the United States and Canada. Clinics focus on technique exercises, jazz and pop styles, performing with small groups, and audience participation.
