Massimo DeAngelis

Massimo is a completely self-taught drummer and composer who plays and writes in various styles and genres across the musical spectrum, favoring high-energy instrumental jazz fusion.

Born and raised in “The Eternal City” - Rome, Italy, he began playing at the age of twelve, and has performed with many groups, including “I Percussionisti di Roma”, a percussion ensemble. He has also taken part in several European jazz festivals throughout his career.

Since emigrating to the United States in 1986, Massimo has been playing live and recording with numerous bands. After teaching privately for several years, he has now focused his energy and time on composing, arranging, recording, and producing.

Describing his music and drumming style as “…an attempt to bring the listener’s awareness to a higher level…”, he believes that his music is intended to fill those many musical voids that exist around us. He draws his inspiration mainly from surrealism, along with a basic, but critical ingredient: improvisation.

”Mind Over Matter” - Massimo has crafted a noteworthy release totally under his own flagship. Responsible for almost every detail of the recording save for his musical partners' extemporizations, Mind Over Matter is an example of a completely independent effort worthy of wider exposure. While it's easy to envision this album pushing Massimo into center stage at drumming festivals worldwide, it's also no stretch to see him moving from this recording into a blossoming career as prog-rock opus auteur.-Phil DiPietro- ”The Visionary” - Solid compositions rule the roost regardless of all the technicalities. Ultimately, Massimo drives that notion home throughout this perceptively engineered feast for the ears.-Glenn Astarita- ”Into The Void” - The album itself is named adequately, as it is hard to forget the feelings provoked by listening to the enigmatic compositions that are open interpretations of Massimo's visions; these visions are a collection of ideas that are to do with dreams and an intimate perception of reality. The complex music here has the genuine intent to incourage the listener to stretch the limits of the imagination, and being aware that some of the ideas on this cd are more meaningful, others remain intentionally elusive.-Fernao Addanz- ”Creative Insanity”. Massimo new adventure is full of brand new compositions, both bold and diverse. The noble structure of the musical form remains always standing, but worm-eaten, corroded; in this contained destruction of the rules something new is developed, something ambiguous, a kind of suspension of the values of the standard form: it's like the beauty of the ruins. ”Creative Insanity” features John Swana on EVI, Jason Shattil and Fernao Addanz on Keyboards, Daniele Pintaldi on Guitars, Ativana N'Bacchio on Basses and of course Massimo on Drums, V-Drums, Percussion, Keys, Sampler, Composer. 70+ Minutes of great fusion.
