Andrew grew up in Cincinnati, OH and became involved in music from a very young age. Moving to Columbus to attend the Ohio State University, Andrew received a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the Ohio State University. In addition to his private studies with Tim Cummiskey and Kim Pensyl, Andrew had the opportunity for lessons with modern jazz greats Ben Monder, Kenny Werner and Rick Peckham. It was also during these college years that Andrew met many of the area's outstanding musicians with whom he now performs. Andrew also became more active as a composer of original music towards the end of his college career. The Andrew Hartman Trio with bassist Scott Gold and drummer Shane Willis came together in 2005 and became a vehicle for performing these original pieces. Most recently Andrew has shared the stage with such renowned musicians as Andy Woodson, Derek DiCenzo, Kris Keith, and Paul Brown amongst others. In addition to his work with several bands, Andrew regularly freelances with duos, trios, larger groups and as a solo artist. His newest project is leading the 5 piece modern jazz group Still Motion. This band can be heard performing repertoire ranging from originals to arrangements of rock, jazz, pop and soul music.
