:: About the Record

Composer and drummer Mike St-Jean together with electronic artist and filmographer Math Rosen join forces in ProJect, a collaboration that presents jazz-meets-electronic atmospheres and grooves in a new light, creating an innovative sound unlike any other this country has to offer. The resulting 5 song ep Alchemist is a strong and impressive debut full of subtle rhythms, lush arrangements and infectious moments where keys, double bass & drums explore dynamic, tonal and energetic possibilities founded on digital samples & loops; this digital element is taken a step further with the addition of an interactive laptop instrumentalist, remixing live bass, keys, guitar and drum feeds back into the mix, bringing the potential of the modern jazz band to a new level.

:: About the Show

ProJect brings to the stage an interactive multimedia open space performance, demonstrating a collaboration of artistry and technology, pushing the boundaries of these disciplines to offer a new, exciting, sonic and visual experience that transcends culture, language and age.

Featuring themes of some of life’s most fundamental experiences and emotions, the group performs on-stage immersed in the projection of interactive visualizations. These visuals react dynamically to the live music including audience participation in the form of movements and gestures, input is captured and then expressed as an array of animated entities which then take on a life all of their own resulting in a truly collaborative and highly innovative, dynamic and inspiring experience for all. No two shows are ever the same.

:: About Mike St-Jean & Math Rosen

A graduate of Carleton University's Music and Philosophy programs, Mike St-Jean divides his time between composition, performance and production. After a 9 country tour of Europe & North America, drumming with the Ottawa-based JW Jones Blues Band, this ambitious musician and entrepreneur recently relocated to Vancouver where he’s been immersed in the local jazz and popular music scenes, developing and exercising music per- formance, studio engineering, and running the innovative online arts community Easel.ca.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Math Rosen has been the man behind some of Canada's most eclectic electronic music of the past five years. Known for his diverse catalogue and high-energy performances as Liar's Rosebush, Rosen has also made a name for himself with his composition for film, video, and stage.
