MEM_MODS: MEM_MODS Vol. 1

Read "MEM_MODS Vol. 1" reviewed by Doug Collette

Modern bluesman extraordinaire Luther Dickinson is always doing something interesting inside or outside of the recently reconfigured North Mississippi Allstars. He is one of the Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers, produced and played on the stellar LP by Sisters of the Strawberry Moon, Solstice (New West Records, 2019), and collaborated with Colin Linden on Amour (Stony Plain, 2019). Evidenced by the way he elevated those projects, it is quite clear how much of a catalyst this older offspring of ...

New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers: Vol. 2

Read "Vol. 2" reviewed by Doug Collette

The New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers Volume 2 is replete with the same instinctual camaraderie and musicianly savvy as its predecessor. Likewise culled from sessions recorded in 2007, this sequel is decidedly not comprised of mere leftovers or otherwise sub-par tracks originally left unreleased. Gina Sicilia: Love Me Madly

Read "Love Me Madly" reviewed by Doug Collette

It is not to disparage Gina Sicilia in any way to say that she has come of age with her ninth album, Love Me Madly. Luther Dickinson and The Sons of Mudboy: Onward and Upward

Read "Onward and Upward" reviewed by Doug Collette

Luther Dickinson, a founding member of The North Mississippi Allstars and a guitarist recently recruited into The Black Crowes, is only one member of The Sons of Mudboy, an impromptu gathering of musicians offering a posthumous tribute to Dickinson's father, Jim. The group's name constitutes a further homage to the elder Dickinson, who fronted a band called Mudboy and the Neutrons in the 1970s. Jim Dickinson's solo recording career, rooted in Sun Studios session work in the 1960s, was in ...
