After private study with Bob Kobus, Dave Santoro and Bob Thompson and completing coursework at the Hartford Conservatory in 1980, he relocated to the South Florida area in 1981 and began playing in a wide variety of live and studio settings ranging from reggae to straight-ahead jazz to rap/bass and everything in between.

John's primary focus nowadays is production, composition and session work out of The Music Box, his recording facility in Hollywood, Florida and with the Miami-based session team at www.gorangrooves.com.

His latest production effort is “All Shades of Blues,” released in May 2010 for vocalist, Beverly Lewis. This blues/jazz hybrid album has been receiving accolades from both the jazz and blues communities and has been receiving consistent airplay on NPR affiliate station, WLRN in Miami. The album has been submitted for Grammy consideration and to the IBC for a shot at the award for best independently produced blues album for 2010.
