Yuka Tadano

Yuka Tadano is one of the rising talents in the jazz world on both acoustic and electric bass. Born in Ibaraki, Japan, coming from a musical family, she picked up the violin at the early age of 6. She started playing the electric bass at age of 17. While having a successful career in the Japanese music scene, Yuka was eager to pursue jazz and decided to move to the United States in August 2004 to study at the prestigious University of North Texas where she holds a Bachelor's Degree and Master’s degree in jazz studies.

Soon after moving to the United States, Yuka switched from being primarily an electric bassist to becoming an acoustic bassist. Since the transition to acoustic bass and to the United States, Yuka had become the premier female bassist of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and has a growing reputation in DFW and Japanese music circles. In August 2009, Yuka was given a position at the University of North Texas as a teaching fellow where she was the director of the 7 o'clock lab band.

In the spring of 2010, Yuka released her latest CD “Dancer” with her band YT little d on Armored Records, which can be purchased at CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon and Digstation. In summer of 2010, she led her band on its world tour including the US, Japan, China and Hong Kong.

Yuka's personality on the bass can best be described as lush, warm and dynamic and is heavily influenced by the Paul Chambers, Ron Carter and Ray Brown swingin' school of bass. As a soloist the lyrical, heavily melodic, Yuka is influenced by Charlie Haden, Oscar Pettiford and Dave Holland. She has had the privilege of studying with Lynn Seaton, Jeffery Eckels, Jeff Bradetich and Eddie Gomez.

Yuka’s extreme versatility on both electric and acoustic bass has enabled her to adapt to many musical situations ranging from jazz, rock, classical and beyond. She has shared the stage with Marchel Ivery, Brad Leali, Shelley Carroll, Andrew Griffith, Stefan Karlsson, Armad “Benny” Medina, Blues Brothers Lou Marini, Jason Thomas, Ambrose Akinmusire, Taylor Eigsti, John Abercrombie, Bernard Wright, Quamon Fowler, Roger Boykin, Claude Johnson, Brian Piper, Mike Drake, Adonis Rose, Tommy Campbell, Jim Riggs, Andy Martin and just to name a few. Yuka has appeared and been featured at the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival, the North Texas Jazz Festival in Addison, the Midwest Conference in Chicago, Shanghai Concert Hall in China, Dallas Museum of Arts Jazz Series, the Women’s Museum in Dallas and has been featured on Fox 4 Dallas news with an all-star cast of jazz musicians. She has performed for prominent leading ladies in the political world, Hillary Clinton (Former First Lady, Secretary of State) and Kay Bailey Hutchinson (US Senator).
