Born: December 3, 1961    Primary Instrument: Cello

Laurie is dedicated to creating new music that features the cello. Improvisation is an important part of music, a part that allows each individual a chance to speak the music that is in their heart. An accomplished classical musician, Laurie loves the variety in performing jazz, folk and improvisatory music. From Lancaster, PA, Laurie has free-lanced & concertized extensively on the east coast, in Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, Hawaii, New York & Europe. Currently the cellist for several ensembles, ranging from classical to jazz to celtic music.

She earned a Master of Music Performance degree from the University of Southern California. While in Los Angeles, she studied the advanced classical cello repertoire with Eleanor Schoenfeld. While in Miami, she studied at the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL), earning a Bachelor in Music Performance. She played both classical & jazz, performing regularly with Ira Sullivan & Strings Attached. She also free-lanced extensively, playing in various symphony orchestras, doing studio work and working with a string quartet & a flute quartet.

Following her graduate work in Los Angeles, she went to Maui to work full-time as a professional musician. While there, she co-founded a trio called Chamber Jazz Maui, along with Jazlynn Woods & Tim O'Hara, that performed a variety of repertoire “from Bach to Beatles.” From there, she spent six months in Seattle, then ventured “back home” to Pennsylvania for what was supposed to be a short visit. Many years later, she is happily married (to composer/flutist Tom Reese) & is very happy hanging out with Tom & their three cats in her small town home.

She is as comfortable in the recording studio as she is on the concert stage, having been a studio musician since she was seventeen years old. She has recorded with several bands, including The Reese Project (including the Grammy nominated “Blue Etude”), Susquehanna, Wyndfall, MuZette, Gypsophilia & Strings Attached. Session work includes OCD Circus, Jesse Yawn, Empty Hats, Arcona Reel Band, Harmony Hill, Jon Anderson's Christmas album, Bobbi Carmitchell & many others.
