first studied classical trombone, then switched to impro (Willem van Manen) in Amsterdam. Played with the Willem Breuker Kollektief for ± 3 years. After this period he started his own bands, first a sextet, after a short period changing it into a quintet (with Wilbert de Joode, Tobias Delius, Corrie van Binsbergen and Charles Huffstadt). Space is the 4th CD (all CD's at BVHAAST). Dance with the Penguins and What a Romance are recorded with the Chris Abelen Quintet, PROOST with a larger ensemble (10).
