Sarah Bernstein is a violinist, composer, improviser, vocalist and poet. Her original work spans avant-jazz, multimedia performance, chamber music, film scores, sound design, and text/spoken word. She is an active member of the New York music community, performing and recording with Anthony Braxton, Adam Rudolph, Dave Scott and others. Current projects as a leader are Unearthish with Satoshi Takeishi, the Sarah Bernstein Quartet, and collaborative trio Iron Dog with Stuart Popejoy and Andrew Drury.
Sarah Bernstein's recent shows combine original text with music composition and electronic processing. She performs solo and with groups in both music and poetry settings. She also works as a film composer. Her scores include the web documentaries by photojournalist Katja Heinemann.
Sarah grew up in San Francisco, California and lives in Brooklyn, New York. She holds a BFA in Violin Performance from the California Institute of the Arts and an MA in Jazz Studies from CUNY Queens College.
