Przemysław Strączek, born in 1976, is considered one of the most talented Polish guitarists by jazz critics. He became a jazz guitarist, composer, arranger, producer, and an educationalist. In 2002, Strączek completed his music education at the University of Silesia, and received a degree from the Jazz Institute at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. In 2011 he was one of the seven finalists (the only European to qualify) to the 3rd Thailand International Jazz Conference Solo Competition organized by the University of Salaya in Bangkok. He is also a laureate of the Marek Bliziński Jazz Guitarist Competition in Warsaw, which he won twice in 2001 and 2003, and the 2005 All-Poland Competition for Guitar Improvisation in Kielce. From 1998 to 2006 he led his first band Tres Jazz, with which in 2004 he recorded the album The Shape of Melody”. Since 2006 he has become a leader in his own various musical projects. Up to now he has released three more albums under his own name: “Earthly Room” (2007), “Light & Shadow” (2010) and “Evans” (2012), dedicated to a great jazz pianist.
Furthermore, he is the author of a handbook for jazz guitarists called “Elementary principles of jazz improvisation on guitar, part I and II”. In 2008 Strączek was honored with an Individual Award from the town of Jastrzębie-Zdrój in recognition of his extensive achievements in the sphere of Arts and Culture. In 2011 and 2013 the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski, awarded him an honorary Medal for Merit to the Polish Culture.
In his music, Przemek Strączek blends elements of improvised music including modal music, Latin-American styles, the blues, as well as classical music, creating his own individual style. In addition to his own projects, Strączek has recorded and performed with musicians such as Andrzej Zielak, Sebastian Frankiewicz, Maciej Garbowski, Jerzy Małek, Sebastian Kuchczyński, Piotr Schmidt, Michał Wierba, Francesco Angiuli, Flavio Li Vigni and Teriver Cheung.
Despite his formal musical education, he has expanded his knowledge and abilities participating in various jazz workshops and tutorials, both in Poland, Switzerland, Thailand and the USA. So far, Strączek performed in the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Thailand, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and the United States.
