Born: March 2, 1971    Primary Instrument: Percussion

David Langlois was born in Paris, France, where he took up the drum set at age fifteen. A year later, he began his training with Johnny Stadler, professional jazz drummer, well known for his appearances on Swiss television, radios and for his outstanding live performances throughout Europe.

Mr. Langlois, then, performed in several jazz bands in France and Switzerland.

At 21 years old, he was hired as a full time musician by Gilles Remy, an European renowned, jazz clarinetist and saxophonist, to play the washboard and the drum set in the “Gilles Remy Orchestra”, which toured internationally, playing at the highly esteemed, Montreux Jazz Festival, and numerous other festivals all over Europe.

It was at this time, that David invented his signature washboard instrument, and polished his unique washboard technique, which immediately attracted several avenues of professional work.

In 1994:

David founded his own four pieces band, “The Sun Side Jazz Band”, inspired by New Orleans jazz, which performed at concerts and festivals throughout France and Switzerland.

In 1998:

David Langlois released his first album “Sun Side in the Street” which he arranged, performed and produced.

In 2000:

David Langlois arranged, interpreted and produced his second album untitled “Swingin’ Leman”.

During his years with Sun Side Jazz Band, Mr. Langlois collaborated with various bands as a freelance percussionist.

On djembe (African drum), he played with “Africa Style Band” and several Senegalese bands in Dakar, Senegal.

Further, working with ethnic rhythms, he had collaborated in the rhythm section of salsa classes held at the prestigious music school AMR, in Geneva.

In 2004:

David Langlois traveled to New York, where he played with PAQUITO D’RIVERA, DORADO SCHMITT, Brian Torff, Scott Robinson, Gil Goldstein, Andrew Sherman, Orrin Star, Stephane Wrembel, John Jorgensen.

He recorded the DVD: “Birdland Django Festival” edition 2004 featuring: JAMES CARTER, DORADO SCHMITT, DAN LEVINSON, David Langlois, Mayo Hubert, Peter Beets, BrianTorff, Winard Harper.

With The Hot Club Of New York

He played at LINCOLN CENTER, JOE’S PUB, IRRIDIUM, SATALLA and festivals including Austin (SXSW), San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Seattle, Philadelphia, Boston, Portland.

In 2005:

With Phillips/Stratta Production

He recorded the DVD: “Birdland Django Festival” edition 2005 featuring: DORADO SCHMITT, ANGELO DEBARRE, KEN PEPLOWSKI.

With The Hot Club Of New York

They were signed by the label AMOEBA MUSIC in Los Angeles and toured with mandolin legend DAVID GRISMAN.

6 shows a week in numerous jazz clubs in NY area.

In 2006:

With The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn

They recorded their first album “Good Night Harry” and sold over 10 000 copies meanwhile, they were performing numerous venues on the east coast.

With The Hot Club Of New York

They performed numerous venues and festivals all over the Country (New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Austin.

In 2007:

With The Hot Club Of New York

He recorded the album of the Hot Club of New York “Barbes Brooklyn” recorded at Sound on Sound in NYC. He toured all over the country and played with Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, etc…

With The Blue Vipers Of Brooklyn

He won the national contest on Fox TV, playing four live performances on national television! He also recorded the second album “40 Days & 40 Nights” at the legendary QUAD studios in NYC (Co-produced by Arty Skye, Hit Central Entertainment and Quad Studios). David played with The Blue Vipers Of Brooklyn 4 times a week in various venues in NY.

With Steve Adelson

He recorded the new CD “Adventures in Stickology” and a DVD “Conert On The Stick” produced by MELBAY.

Opening act for Al DI MEOLA, STANLEY CLARK AND JEAN- LUC PONTY.

With Andrew Sherman and Fluid recording studios

He played for Adams Jones' movie “Nowhere Fast” He also recorded NY Lottery and AT&T Commercials.

In 2008:

With The Blue Vipers Of Brooklyn Intensive national touring with the new album “40 Days & $0 Nights”

With Porter Smith Recording of his new album “Raise” recorded at Squam Sound, Ashland NH
