As a longtime percussionist with the Jazz Symphony Orchestra of the São Paulo State, Brazilian percussionist, drummer and educator Rogerio Boccato has played with Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, Milton Nascimento, Cláudio Roditi, Egberto Gismonti, João Bosco, Joe Zawinul, John McLaughlin, Dionne Warwick, among many others.
Recently relocated from Sao Paulo to the New York area, Rogerio is featured on percussion on Kenny Garrett's CD Beyond the Wall (Nonesuch Records), and also on John Patitucci's latest release Remembrance (Concord Jazz) alongside Joe Lovano and Brian Blade (August 2009).
As a sideman he has been playing on projects led by John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Edward Simon, david Binney, and has played/recorded with Dave Stryker, Steve Davis, David Berkman, Dena DeRose,Mike Holober, Ben Allison, Vana Gierig, Paul Bollenback, Dave Pietro, and with top ranking Brazilian artists, such as Toninho Horta, Dori Caymmi, Moacir Santos, Rique Pantoja, Zizi Possi, Jane Duboc, André Mehmari, Roberto Sion, Arismar do Espirito Santo, Nailor “Proveta”, among others.
Rogerio Boccato is currently a percussion faculty member of The Manhattan School of Music and The Hartt School (University of Hartford). He has also been on the faculty of The State University of Campinas (Brazil) from 2000 to 2005. Rogerio has been presenting clinics on Brazilian music, focusing on the traditional Brazilian rhythms and styles applied to the drum set and to Jazz combo. These clinics have been enthusiastically received at universities around the United States and Portugal. Rogerio has been a resident artist at the Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2001.
