Born: April 17, 1985    Primary Instrument: Drums

Most praised for his unique style and his unerring consistency as a drummer, Tuur has developed a highly diversified artistic palette ranging from jazz, latin, world music to funk, pop, fusion and ethnic music. He mesmerizes audiences, performing in a deeply charged pace that begets soulful perfection. Born in Duffel, Belgium, music has been a pervasive presence in Tuur’s upbringing, during which his father, passionate for the blues, played the guitar and drums while his mother was immersed in her love for world music. Tuur’s musical journey began at the age of 8, when he joined a local marching band and percussion group in his hometown. He prospered rapidly and began touring europe at the young age of 15 with a few of his bands such as his percussion duo, performing in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Sweden among others.

Tuur reminisces about laying on the couch as a child, listening to Miles Davis, Bobby Mc Ferrin, Paul Simon, Tower of Power, Wayne Shorter, Salif Keita and such varied influences leading to his first musical education at the music school of Mechelen in Belgium as a classical percussion student. His love of travel complemented with opportunities to perform live in various countries continue to expose him to differing styles and rhythms which had initially lead to the development of his signature mode and is part of the reason why the powerful, innovative and creative core of his music speaks perfectly to the demands of the new collective music. Also he is composing his own music and recently started his own band “Tuur Moens & Syndicate”.

During he’s studies at the jazz department of CODARTS, the Rotterdam Conservatory, Tuur has attended several workshops, lessons, master classes with some of the world’s finest musicians such as Horacio “el negro” Hernandez, Hidalgo, Ed Soph, Richard Bona, Ernesto Simpson, Randy Brecker, Dave Liebmann, The Drumbassadors, Dave Valentine, Billy Hart, Nosso Trio, Kiko Freitas, …

Tuur performed/played with Brain Lynch, Cyro Baptista, Rick Margitza, Dave Valentine, Nelson Faria, Pepe Romero, Luz Azul, Sensuàl, Savana Station, Izaline Calister, Jesse van Ruller, Benjamin Herman, Jeroen Vierdag, Ben van den Dungen, Rik Mol, Rob van de Wouw, Stefan Lievestro, Ronald Snijders, ...

On March the 22th 2009, Tuur won the Erasmus Jazz Price. A price for best jazz student.

Today he plays as a regular drummer, traveling all over the world with Ntjam Rosie and State of Monc. Also he is often asked as a session musician for different styles ranging from jazz to pop, world music, funk...
