Graduated from Music Academy in Katowice(Poland)-Jazz Department in 2007.Prizes recieved so far- -GRAND PRIX (1st Prize) in the Groups category at the 40th "JAZZ ON THE ODER" Festival in Wroclaw, Poland. -GRAND PRIX distinction, along with the "Jazz Angel 2005" statuette, at the "Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa" competition in Bielsko-Biala, Poland. -"Swingujacy Kruk"award for best instrumentalist at Hot Jazz Spring Contest 2004 in Czestochowa,PL -Joint fourth place in International Competition for Jazz Groups in Brussels, Belgium. -Fryderyk prize 2007 for the best jazz album of the year"Assymetry"with Zbigniew Namyslowski Quintet -Fryderyk prize for the best poetic album "Umiera Piekno"with Aga Zaryan -Jazz Oscar 2006 for the best album of the year"Live"with KBD trio -The best double bassist of 2008 in Jazz Forum magazine reader's poll. Performed in such places as Kntting Factory-New York, Jazz Bakery-Los Angeles, Berklee Performance Center-Boston, Vail Jazz Festival-Colorado. Did 3 tours of U.S. with jazz trio Triology and clarinetist Brad Terry. Has worked with many polish artist such as:Zbigniew Namyslowski,Tomasz Stanko,Aga Zaryan,Jarek Smietana,Mietek Szczesniak,Piotr Baron,Janusz Muniak,Dorota Miskiewicz,Kuba Badach,Anna Serafinska,Ewa Bem,Michal Tokaj,TGD,New Life M,Mate.O.and with international stars:Bennie Maupin,Nigel Kennedy,Dan Tepfer. Nine years ago, the clarinetist, improvisational whistler and musical educator Brad Terry hosted in the United States three young musicians he had worked with in Poland. I mean young.

Mateusz Kolakowski, the pianist, was thirteen. In this picture from that period, we see him with Terry. Bassist Michal Baranski and drummer Tomek Torres were fifteen. Terry toured the country with them in his old Dodge van, overnighting in RV parks and driveways and playing whenever they could, sometimes in paying ...
