Steven L. Black

While and after attending the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, I had the opportunity to work with a variety of jazz artists such as Art Porter, Art Porter Jr., Jack DeJohnette, Pharoah Sanders, Herb Ellis, Ace Cannon and more.

Music, in all forms, is a passion and I'm always happy when performing. I'm a multi-instrumentalist and play guitar, bass and keyboard. It's great to earn a living at something you love!

Solid!

Santa Rosa opens with the title track, a great bass and piano groove, setting the tone for the rest of the CD. Some of the sax work reminds me of Jay Beckinstein from Spyro Gyra, except on tenor rather than Jay's trademark alto sax. The CD is a great mix of original works and standards, including one of my favorite bossa nova charts, "Wave" by Antonio Carlos Jobim - the guy who wrote "The Girl from Impanema." Black's guitar style shows that he's paid his dues, with some serious Joe Pass-influenced work. Another highest recommendation - "Buy this CD!"
