Guitarist/Composer Derek Bomback was born in Torrance California, a suburb of Los Angeles. He started playing guitar at the age of 8 and learned to play rock and blues at an early age which would end up being his roots. At the age of 16, after hearing Pat Metheny's Bright Size Life album, he dedicated his musical studies to Jazz. After graduating high school, he attended El Camino Community College where he studied music performance and theory and after a few years, was admitted to Berklee College of Music in Boston. There he studied with Berklee's top instructors and received his Bachelors in Music with a dual degree in Guitar Performance and Jazz Composition in 2010. After moving back to Los Angeles, he has been playing with some of Los Angeles' premiere players. He is also dedicating time to music education as a music and jazz instructor. Derek's music travels have taken him all over the country playing for various crowds and institutions from San Diego to St. Louis to Boston. In his own trio, he explores original compositions as well as original arrangements of jazz standards. His music takes the traditions of jazz and strives to carry it forward into the 21st century.
