Timothy Lee Miller is a prolific American composer writing unique concert music for orchestra, chamber, choral and jazz ensembles. He has earned a BS in music education from the University of Tennessee, an MM in composition from the University of Miami and an MFA in composition from Vermont College where he is currently studying with Tamar Diesendruck and Andy Jaffe. He works primarily in the contemporary classical realm writing orchestral and chamber music; however, he has also written several big band and sextet jazz works. He has received several commissions and ASCAP awards. His “Kid's Play: A Fun Suite for Orchestra” was awarded a Distinguished Musician Special Mention at the 2009 IBLA Grand Prize Competition in Italy. His “Garden of Dreams,” an SAATBB a cappella setting of a Madison J. Cawein poem, was recently awarded as a winner of the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition 2011. His choral works are recorded on his own label, and his orchestral works are recorded on ERMMedia. The Vermont Jazz Ensemble just premiered and recorded “Harlem River Blues,” which is one of his newest big band charts.
