Alejandro Herrera: (Electric bass player - Double bass player - Composer - Arranger - Teacher)

Born January 26, 1960 - Capital Federal - Buenos Aires - Argentina High School studues complete. University studies: Second year at Economy – Universidad Nacional Mar del Plata. Musical Studies: He started to play the bass at the age of 12. He’s self taught. Studied Music Theory and piano at the Beethoven Music Conservatory (Buenos Aires). Studied violin and viola with Teddy Sanchez (Viola soloist at the “Symphonic Orchestra of Mar del Plata”). Arrangement with Rick Anna. Harmony with Juan Carlos Cirigliano and Marcelo Braga.

He is presenting his material and his own group since 1986 with trios, quartets to septet, and included most renowned Argentinian musicians, such as: Carlos Campos Ramiro Nasello, Juan Cruz de Urquiza, Guillermo Calliero, Americo Bellotto, Henry Norris, Carlos Lastra, Rodrigo Dominguez, Juan Manuel Alfaro, Gustavo Musso, German Kucich, Sergio Gruz, Diego Ortells, Paul Olivera, Andres Beeuwsaert, Pepi Taveira, Luis Ceravolo, Sergio Salvatore, Hector Ruiz, Christian Judurcha, Cacho Tejera, Sergio Mileo, Jose Bale, Hernan Jacinto, Fernando Martinez; Gustavo Camara; Richard Nant among others.

With them he has been performing since 2000 at several editions of the festivals: "Buenos Aires Jazz and other music", "Festival de Jazz de La Plata", "Jazz in abril " (Mar del Plata)," Chascomus Jazz Festival "," Rosario Jazz Festival "," Telecom. Jazz & Cocktails "at the Museum of Fine Arts and the cycle" Jazzología "CC San Martin. Several times at the television programs "Tribulations", "Music Expert" "Jamm Session" etc., opening for Gary Burton in Mar del Plata, in the "Telecom Jazz Festival" - Puerto Madero, at the Theatre Lavarden - Rosario, in the "Jazz Tour 2003 - Uruguay; Teatro ND / Ateneo, at Dolores, Living 33 - Santa Fe, Teatro La Subasta - Mar del Plata, invited group at the first presentation in Argentina of Jeff Berlin (Theatre Ateneo), etc. Alejandro Herrera in 2001 and 2002 was on an extensive tour around USA , Europe and Israel, as part of guitarist Al Di Meola´s group. On the other hand since 1992 he tours as part of Austrian saxophone player Karlheinz Miklin´s group, that make European tours every two years and recorded several CDs and DVDs featuring some of Herrera´s tunes. He also toured around several countries as part of the Finnish group “TUBE FACTORY” of the saxophone player Pekka Phylkkannen. Because of his background, he is usually required by international artists when they perform in South America, such as: the English saxophonist Gilad Atzmon (in his first presentation in Argentina), Belgian guitar player Philip Catherime in trio (at the "Keep Walking Jazz Tour 2002 "in Montevideo, Uruguay) with whom he also played in 1999 at the Argentina tour, as part of the Spanish guitarist Ximo Tebar´s 4º, in trio with Dutch saxophone player Ben Van Den Dungen in Argentina several years, in trio with French pianist Herve Sellin, in trio with the Dutch pianist Jan Reinert, in trio with the Brazilian guitarist Ricardo Silveyra, etc. He also player several times (last time in 2014) with pianist Sergio Gruz in Paris – France, also in quartet with pianist German Kucich in Madrid - Spain, etc.

The group of the bass player Alejandro Herrera fell on the public of Thelonious like a leopard caress. A combo made of four soloists that unfolded interesting combinations of collective understanding and individual improvisation. The Herrera Quartet is one of the new expressions of the domestic jazz. This electric bass player, of a remarkable technique, shows himself up here like a restless composer that creates intricate harmonic structures over harmonic sketches. The first impression that gets to us from the scene is the high technical level of the group that will be throughout the night the common denominating.
