Born: July 29, 1982 Primary Instrument: Piano
In an attempt to characterize the musical fare of pianist Rasmus Kjær the most significant is his openness and curiosity combined with a profound and personal relationship to the piano.
Most vivid is his collaboration with internationally renowned orchestra Under Byen, with whom he besides touring in USA, Canada and Europe has participated on the albums “Alt er tabt” and “Siamesisk”.
He released his first record in his own name called “Broken Bow” in 2012. It features two of the most innovative and respected jazz musicians on Danish ground Kresten Osgood and Jonas Westergaard.
Copenhagen Jazz Festival wrote: ”Rasmus Kjær the talented pianist from the band Under Byen has put together a strong trio with drummer Kresten Osgood and bass player Jonas Westergaard.
Originally inspired by a pianist like Ahmad Jamal, Kjær is a strong- minded musician with an almost indiepoeticlike expression”.

Jazznyt wrote about Broken Bow:
Kjaer has gathered inspiration from East African music and
together with the experience he has from Under Byen he has
an uncompromised and honest style. We are in a tension field
between severe rhythms and an explorative approach to the
melodies.
All this contributes to the creation of an original and convincing
debut. He gets superb help from Osgood and Westergaard to
create piano trio music with depth and seriousness in an
expressionistic universe
