Primary Instrument: Piano
Last Updated: July 26, 2012Peter Boe, a Portland jazz pianist who earned his acclaim as a two-time Grammy winner with the Northwest's favorite soul man, Robert Cray, is as fluent as they come.
Self-taught from a tender age, Boe came up through Portland's fertile jazz scene in the late '70s and early '80s, playing all of the city's famed clubs as well as serving sideman stints with the likes of Sonny Stitt, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Milt Jackson, Eddie Harris and scores of others.
After eight fruitful, globe-hopping years with Cray, and five more with Portland bluesman Curtis Salgado, Boe hung up his road shoes in favor of raising a son, teaching some 30 students a week, and privately honing his own already formidable chops.
