Born: July 17, 1982 Primary Instrument: Ukulele
Sarah Maisel (ukulele and vocals) was born in Birmingham, Alabama and has always had a love for music. At the age of 6, she began violin lessons and played in youth orchestras for several years. For the 10 years she studied her focus was Classical Music. During that time she also tried her hands at the piano, taking lessons for 3 years. She took a brief hiatus from music during her college years and then moved to San Diego in 2004. Once she heard the sounds of the ukulele in 2006, she was hooked. She took a group class with Frank Leong, and later studied with him privately. After three years of studying with Uncle Frank, she began studying Jazz Theory. In 2009 she met producer Tim Coffman and recorded the song ‘Waikiki’ on a compilation album. Since then, she has recorded two CDs of her own with Mr. Coffman, ‘Have Uke Will Travel’ (2010) and ‘In the Moment’ (2011). Both have been well received and a third one is in the works. Sarah has been playing gigs around Southern California together since 2010, sharing the joy of Jazz and the Ukulele wherever she goes. www.sarahmaisel.com
“Nearness of You” is an nicely textured, instrumental showpiece that Maisel uses to cast a spell of harmonics and beautifully picked, lyrical figures that sound almost like they are being played on a harp. - San Diego Troubadour

I enjoy sharing the joy of the instrument when others- that is the fun of music. Though I have only been playing ukulele for 6 years, I played classical violin for 10 years prior. I also have a back ground in piano as well. I teach all levels of playing on the ukulele, from beginners to advanced.
