Rodrigo Recabarren was born in Santiago, Chile, on October 20th, 1982, and from early on he was in touch with music. The influence of his father, a self-taught drummer, was fundamental in shaping his love for music. In the year 2001 he was accepted into the arts program at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC), where he started his professional studies on classical percussion while simultaneously studying drum-set. During that period he formed part of the PUC Jazz Big Band, as well of a large number of varied percussion ensembles with whom he performed in several venues in Santiago and the rest of Chile. He finished his studies at PUC in the year 2005, obtaining his professional degree a year later. During that time he continued his private drum studies and decided to focus on Jazz, looking for advice and support from the best teachers in Chile, and started performing regularly in several Jazz clubs of Santiago. In 2007 he founded the music school Tresillo (www.tresillo.cl) in Santiago, Chile. Today, Tresillo has two different locations in the city and has over 150 students, making it one of the largest schools in Santiago. Rodrigo currently holds the position of general director and is supported by 9 other teachers, all of whom are professional musicians with vast experience in music education. Because of his accomplishments as an student, musician and entrepreneur, Rodrigo received in 2008 the prestigious Beca Presidente de La Republica scholarship to pursue a Master's degree in Jazz Performance at the New York University (NYU), starting on January 2009 and during his studies at NYU, he became a member of the NYU Jazz Orchestra, with whom he recorded an album for Half Note Records and performed in several important scenarios across the United States as well as Europe. This also allowed him to collaborate with renowned professors such as Billy Drummond, John Scofield, Brad Shepik, Dafnis Prieto, Wayne Krantz and Kenny Wener, among others. In Novemeber 2010 he presented the final concert for his studies and obtained his master's degree in December of the same year. Currently, Rodrigo lives in New York, NY, and actively participates in multiple musical projects that perform regularly in the city, such as the Melissa Aldana Trio, John Kwassman's Everywhere Band, Camila Meza group, Akira Ishiguro's Beautiful Round and leading his own trios Standards Trio www.standardstrio.com and NovasTrio www.novastrio.com Rodrigo also haves several international tours booked for 2012 and 2013 in Latin America, the US and Europe.
