Tish Adams

Vocalist, Tish Adams is a favorite on New England's live music 'scene.' She has a compelling stage presence and an extensive repertoire of time-honored Standards. She offers fresh interpretations, yet sets a sentimental mood—a passionate tribute to rich Jazz tradition. Her show is seasoned with long-forgotten gems, obscure treasures and a dash of the Blues. She can burn an up-tempo swinger or melt the audience with her sensitive reading of a slow, smoky ballad. Fans compare her to the "great ladies of Jazz." Musicians call her "a natural." She has acquired a faithful following. One listen will explain why.

Tish's originals are delightfully funny or as low-down as can be. Her lyrics are playful and cleverly written. She's turned unexpected topics into great Blues stories. One in particular (inspired by the Anne Rice novel, Interview With The Vampire) is a popular audience request. Her fans were overjoyed when she released The Vampire Blues as a CD-single on Halloween 2004.

Tish has been offered musical opportunities that she never anticipated. She produced a weekly live music series for Rhode Island's Providence Bookstore Café. Bringing in top-flight Jazz players from Maine to New York City, she created a 'scene' that both fans and musicians flocked to for most of the '90's… and still reminisce about today. Since 1993, her Vocal Performance Workshop has helped teenagers to discover, explore and develop their singing voices - and even more importantly, their self-confidence. This class is offered as an arts elective at School One, an innovative non-profit private high school (school-one.org).

In 2000, she was asked to write (and ultimately record) lyrics for the original tunes used in the JazzKids music education program (jazzkids.com). The resulting CD is entitled Vocal Swing.

She also performs live for little ones. Catch her every February and August at Jazz For Kids, a presentation of Rhode Island-based winery, Greenvale Vineyards (greenvale.com). She can provide an interactive kids concert for your venue, with her own Jazz From The Start.

Vocalists & Localists, her weekly commercial-free radio broadcast (from the University of Rhode Island), allows her to share the music of others, while promoting the performers and venues of New England's live Jazz 'scene.' Tune her in locally, from 8 to 10am every Thursday morning, at 90.3FM WRIU - Kingston.
